This is Michael Heisley, who is widely remembered as a successful entrepreneur and the former owner of the Vancouver-based basketball team, the Memphis Grizzlies.
A Successful Entrepreneur
From a young age, Heisley was passionate about investing and entrepreneurship. He was deeply interested in the idea of creating his own business that could achieve great success and, of course, generate substantial profits.
After graduating from Georgetown University, he immediately set out to bring his business ambitions to life.
Before long, Heisley’s efforts bore fruit, and he became the owner of several enterprises, including:

Heico is a group of enterprises that provides reliable and high-quality solutions in the fastener technology sector. This allows the holding to implement numerous innovations.
Initially, the company manufactured and sold nails, primarily for the furniture industry. However, as Heisley observed the success of his business, he expanded the product range produced by his enterprises.
By the 1990s, the holding began manufacturing cold-headed components based on client blueprints and specifications. Most of these components were used in the automotive industry by companies such as Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, and others.
Over time, Heico Holding expanded internationally, establishing company offices in numerous countries worldwide.
One of the Wealthiest People
These achievements led Forbes to repeatedly include Michael Heisley in its prestigious ranking of the world’s richest people.
Owner of the Vancouver Basketball Team
Interestingly, in addition to running his highly successful business, Heisley was deeply passionate about sports. This hobby ultimately led him to become the official owner of the Vancouver-based basketball team, the Memphis Grizzlies.
In 2001, under his ownership, the club relocated from Vancouver, despite the fact that in 2000, when he acquired the team, he had promised that it would remain in Vancouver under any circumstances.
In 2006, the businessman decided to sell seventy percent of the club’s shares to a consortium. However, at the agreed-upon time, the team was not purchased.
Subsequently, no one else offered the requested amount, which stood at $300 million.
In 2012, Heisley made a final decision to sell the Grizzlies, as he intended to step away from financial affairs due to his age.
On June 11, 2012, a new owner for the club was chosen. However, Heisley was to remain on the board of directors until the transaction was officially completed.
Michael Heisley passed away on April 26, 2014, at the age of seventy-seven.
