As you may have guessed, we are talking about Emily Carr University of Art + Design. It is widely respected and recognized among applicants, students, and employers alike. As a public art university, it is one of Canada’s leading institutions for art, design, and media education, located on Great Northern Way in Vancouver.

Emily Carr University consists of four academic faculties, each offering diverse programs:

Early History
The university’s origins date back to 1925, when the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts was established. Throughout the 20th century, it underwent three name changes:
- 1933: Renamed the Vancouver School of Art;
- 1978: Became Emily Carr College of Art + Design;
- 1995: Rebranded as Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design.

- 1995 – It gained the authority to confer bachelor’s degrees
- 1997 – Bachelor’s degrees were introduced in media arts

Official Symbol Registration
On April 20, 2007, Emily Carr University registered its official symbols with the Canadian Heraldic Authority.
A significant event took place on April 28, 2008, when the government announced legislative amendments officially granting the institution university status under the name Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
A New Home for the University
On September 1, 2008, the institution began operating under its new name. In 2017, the university moved to a new campus, previously the site of Finning International’s industrial complex in East Vancouver.
