Vancouver – A Hub for Design Education

Vancouver is one of Canada’s most vibrant cities, attracting a large number of tourists and a diverse local population. Many people, including international students, come to Vancouver specifically to study. The city provides an excellent educational environment, and many choose to remain and work in Vancouver after completing their studies.

Among the most sought-after professions in Vancouver is design—spanning multiple industries and disciplines. The city is home to a remarkably high number of skilled designers, likely more than in most other cities.

The high quality of education plays a crucial role in this. Before launching their careers, Vancouver’s designers undergo rigorous training through a combination of structured programs, specialized courses, and industry conferences. These resources help future designers fully immerse themselves in their field and explore the many advantages of their profession.

Vancouver offers many educational institutions where aspiring designers can earn their qualifications.

In this article, with reference to vcad.ca, we highlight one of Vancouver’s most prestigious and well-respected design schools—Visual College of Art and Design (VCAD).

About the College

The Visual College of Art and Design (VCAD) is a private career college based in Vancouver.

The school offers a comprehensive selection of diploma programs, covering various aspects of fashion, graphic design, architecture, technology, interior design, and game design.

It is important to note that VCAD is not affiliated with Victoria College of Art, which specializes in fine arts education.

About the Ownership

VCAD is owned by Eminata Group and operates under Vancouver Career College, which manages three professional colleges:

  • Vancouver Career College,
  • CDI College, and
  • Visual College of Art and Design.

Foundation and Opening

Eminata Group established Visual College of Art and Design in early 2009, with student enrollment beginning that same year.

The official opening of VCAD took place in the spring of 2009. Initially, the college shared its facilities with another institution, Western University of Canada, which was also owned by Eminata at the time.

Achieving Full Independence

In September 2010, VCAD relocated to a new space, allowing it to operate independently.

The college moved into a dedicated multi-floor facility on Pender Street in Vancouver, marking an important milestone in its growth and autonomy.
